| This is from the Developer's Blog at callofduty.com and explains a little bit about coop play and why to use it, pretty cool idea.
Campaign Co-Op Play Co-Op through campaign levels you can experience in Single Player, but with up to three others (four-player online, or two-player local split-screen). As soon as we got Campaign mode up-and-running, we starting building it out further and one way to do that was with Competitive Co-Op...
Competitive Co-Op It's Campaign Co-Op, but with a very important twist: you play cooperatively through single-player campaign levels, while competing with your partners for points. Each kill will award you with points; headshots and other more difficult feats are worth more than a basic kill, you go on streaks to create point multipliers, and squad mechanics also award points (such as reviving a downed teammate). There is a score board now, and at the end of the match there are Match Bonuses as you'd expect. What's more, is that you are earning XP (experience points) – any XP earned in Co-Op will add to your global rank, which translates to XP and unlocks in Competitive Multiplayer. So before playing Competitive Multiplayer, if you gained 10 levels in Co-Op, you would have all your level 10 unlocks when you logged into Multiplayer (level 10 weapons, perks, attachments, etc).
This looks like a combo of the single player and multi player but you earn XP as you do it. Builds teamwork, teaches the maps, gain XP, and you learn your weapons all at once.

| Sounds good but it could be hard getting that many people thats in the same place to do that besides I dont think its going to be that hard to level up. The thing with cod4 was its my first online game and the first person shooter was new to me also. So I cant wait to get in the mix I know as soon as I open it I'm going in. | |

| Can you do co-op or multiplayer online with the split screen? On Resistance 2 of us can play on my PS3 at the same time (both online and local). | |

| Singer, I'm not sure if this answers your question but this is the most information I could find for you....
I think the answer is yes... maybe....
This morning Activision announced a number of details regarding the latest installment in the Call of Duty franchise. Call of Duty: World at War will allow players to live vicariously as both the side of the US against the Japanese and the Russians against the Germans. The most anticipated feature, however, is the four-player co-op mode. On the PS3 (and Xbox 360) version, players can choose between a multiplayer four-player split-screen offline co-op mode or a four-player online co-op mode. Finally, there is experience points to be earned in both online modes, with a difficulty level that "will scale dynamically to provide a deeper level of challenge," so how challenging it will be depends on the experience level of the player and the player's comrades.
