RIP PS3 Empty
PostSubject: RIP PS3   RIP PS3 EmptySun Aug 28, 2011 11:57 pm

After having months of time to relax and recover from the years of COD4, BFBC2, etc. that I have played on my PS3, it finally made the trip up to Vermont from Massachusetts. It was only a week ago that I set it up. Since then, I've watch a couple episodes of 30 Rock to ease it and my self back into electronic entertainment. I didn't dare throw in one of my old favorite games.

I invited a neighbor over for a couple of beers on Thursday and about an hour for before leaving he commented on my PS3 and challenged me to a game of NHL 11. I figured, what the heck. I proceeded to light him up. It was fun. We figured that we finish off with some shootout competitions. We were tied up in the shootout and then all of a sudden...
the PS3 shit the bed. THE BIG GAME OVER!!!
It is now a fancy paper weight. Bummer. I think it is the disk drive, but I don't know. Just a blinking red light. I told Shannon that I guess it marks the end of an era for me. She told me "no it doesn't, I haven't beaten Bioshock 2 or LA Noire yet, find a way to get my saved games off of it and look for a new one!"

I haven't decided yet what I'm going to do, but it is a lot of money for having so little time to enjoy video games during residency. That being said, Battlefield 3 is coming out eventually. Choices choices!

Good news JC, they did just drop the price to $249. That makes it a little better right?

If you want a temporary fix until you decide what to do i have one for you.
I had the same problem and my ps3 worked for another 2 months before it crapped out again. Did it again and it only lasted 3 weeks...so maybe a total of 3 months
Its a cheap fix...

The only thing thats somewhat pricy is a heat gun that you can probably buy for $30 at a home depot or lowe's. You need alcohol and thermal compound that you can get at radio shack for $10.

And you have to be willing to take your PS3 completelly apart. All in all its about 1 hour of work.

Here is a youtube video (its only part 1 of i think 6) but it works if you really wanna take the time to do it.
