PS3 vs PS3 Slim Empty
PostSubject: PS3 vs PS3 Slim   PS3 vs PS3 Slim EmptySat Jul 16, 2011 8:00 pm

Hey guys

The forum was starting to get very quiet lol.

Anyway I have noticed that my 60Gb Original PS3 is starting to get quite loud (i can hear it over my headsets) at times with what sounds like overheating. It is standing vertical on a wood floor with as much space as it needs.

I was just wondering anybody who has switched from Original to Slim if the overheating has got better and if it would be worth me trading up as i can get £80 trade in for this one then get a pre owned Slim for £160 then stick in my upgraded HDD back in. As i would rather trade it in while is still works and get something for it than wait till it breaks once the over heating gets too much.

Since i always use 2 USB ports i'll just have to keep an eye on my controller charge. Do you know if you can use USB Hubs to add more?

Thanks

-M

Martin, I upgraded over the winter to the slim when the reader in my 80g fatty stopped doing it's job. The only down side is that I can't heat the apartment in the winter. Mine sits vertically on the end of my cabinet. It's quieter, it's never over heated. You can use a USB hub with it. My back up hard drive didn't like running through it so that is one port taken but I run my handset charger, headset charger, and camera off a simple 3 port hub and they all work fine. If it were me I'd do it before it gets any worse. I hope that helps.

I haven't yet but will be cracking open my original PS3 to clean it out, just like a PC.

For those who don't know what to do, you should (annually) open your PC case, use compressed air to blow out the dust, then apply a non-WD40 lubricant (like 3-in-1 oil), just a drop or two, to the fan nut. This will help keep you from overheating, or your fan from failing.

Thanks guys, I'm looking at the 160Gb as apparently the 160 /320Gb are the newer version with better chipset so even cooler, although I went to a game store and they said only the 320Gb is being made now, is that true?
